Lorna Smith
Madrid
She began painting out of a need to accompany the spaces she was creating. She had a vital urge to lighten the weight of what she found. She has always identified with the ideal of beauty in making everything lighter, warmer, and calmer. In this idea of putting her artistic creation on a diet, Lorna evolves throughout her first three exhibitions. She moves from a body of work in which she uses sand to create textures, thus achieving that sense of calm and peace; toward a reflection on thought and culture, introducing a figure on an iron wire into her works. This leads her to her most representative work, using cotton as the predominant medium, playing with cracks and folds, and achieving that interplay between light and shadow.
